Memphis Munchies

Calvin and I ventured to Memphis to spend time with his family and explore some of what the city has to offer. We had a fabulous time walking on the waterfront, going to the civil rights museum (in the hotel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot) and chatting it up with all of his relatives. Despite the severe heat of summer, we managed to get in some good eating too.

For breakfast we found a crepe restaurant - this place needs to come to Atlanta.

Sushi from A-Tan in Memphis.

Several of Calvin's relatives had never tried sushi before, so we introduced them to the raw stuff. His stepfather really liked it but I'm not sure about the rest of the group! We had a great time anyway, though, and the sushi was quite good.

BBQ Platter from Interstate Barbecue in Memphis - this is the real stuff!

The world famous Jim Neely - the founder of Interstate.

Lunch from Safari Cup in Birmingham, Alabama

On our way home we happened upon a great lunch spot - Safari Cup in downtown Birmingham. The chicken sandwich took me back to Joburg and the salad was very fresh and tasty.
